StableComfort: Our Original Three‑Layer Stall Flooring System

StableComfort™ is a patented, multi-celled mattress that is equivalent to at least 6 inches of bedding. The mattresses are placed wall-to-wall in the stall, topped with a durable cover and securely fastened to the walls for a one-piece, full-coverage permanent flooring solution.

The original USDA-approved StableComfort system by Promat features a durable three‑layer design engineered for superior equine comfort and performance.

#1: The Mattress

The foundation of the system is a multi-celled mattress made from polypropylene fabric with reinforced nylon stitching. It is filled with uniformly-sized rubber crumb derived from recycled vehicle tires. This resilient material is inert and does not break down over time, ensuring long-lasting support and shock absorption.

#2: Rubber Crumb

Additional rubber crumb is carefully spread over the mattresses to fill in the baffles. The rubber crumb provides another layer of shock absorbency and creates an evenly distributed soft bedding surface.

#3: The Protective Top Cover

A one-piece top cover protects the mattress and keeps the system sealed. The underside is a tightly woven, needle-punched industrial-grade polypropylene geotextile. The top surface is double-impregnated with a complex rubber compound, making it highly durable, non-absorbent, and 100% waterproof. The cover is securely fastened to the walls to stay in place and prevent bedding or waste from seeping underneath.

#4: The Fastening Strip

A custom plastic fastening strip acts as a long washer, anchoring the top cover tightly to the wall or floor to maintain a smooth and secure surface.

The StableComfort system can be enhanced with the addition of our ¾" Premium Pad—a high-density foam layer that delivers extra cushioning. This upgrade is ideal for performance horses, those recovering from lameness, or foaling stalls where additional comfort is essential.

While standing, horses benefit from a stable, even surface. While lying down, the system helps reduce injury rehabilitation time and supports joint flexibility.
